Founded in 2009, the Uber corporation has only been around for about 6 years. But they’ve managed to make major waves in the transportation business during that time. In fact, you can now find Uber in more than 60 countries and over 300 cities across the nation!
One of the best things about working for Uber is that you get to set your own hours. You can work as little or as much as you want to. You can choose to work at sunrise, sunset, overnight, or anything in between. In fact, many people drive for Uber for an hour or two before going in to their regular job, drive for a little after work before going home, or just drive on the weekends to earn a little extra cash.
Uber has received some criticism from taxi companies because they’re majorly cutting into taxi profits, and because Uber’s drivers don’t have to carry the expensive licensures and certifications that taxi’s do. Uber has also received their share of complaints about their “surge pricing,” where prices can cost 2, 3, or even 4 times that of a regular ride. Of course, these surges come when there are extraordinarily large events, where many more people that usual are regusting an Uber ride.
Over 160,000 people currently drive for Uber, and over 50% of the US population currently has access to Uber’s services.
