It’s important to back up your devices. Whether it’s your iPad or iPhone, losing all your data can be an absolute disaster. So make sure you never fall prey to it and back up your devices to either iCloud or iTunes.

It’s important to back up even if you’re not considering making any changes on your device, but if you’re thinking of updating to iOS 9’s public beta then it’s absolutely essential to back up your information.

The fact is, no software is perfect and whilst it’s unlikely you’ll suffer a data loss during or after upgrading the operating system, there’s still the possibility of it occurring. After all, bugs are common and you don’t want to fall prey to a software malfunction; there’s often no way back.

So back up your device with the Cloud or iTunes and here’s how to do so:

iTunes

These steps are the same whether you’re backing up your iPhone or iPad.

Connect your device via USB to the Computer -> Open iTunes -> Click on the device you wish to back up in the tabs bar -> In Summary select Back Up -> Switch Automatically Back Up to This Computer -> Within Manually Back Up and Restore select Back Up Now.

This will automatically back up your selected device to iTunes, now here’s how to back up a device using iCloud.

iCloud

These steps are the same whether you’re backing up your iPhone or iPad.

If you don’t currently have an iCloud account then this process won’t work until you do. It’s easy to sign up and then sign in before proceeding with this process.

Start the Settings App on your device -> Select iCloud -> Click Back Up -> Visit the Back Up tab and switch on iCloud Back Up -> Select Back Up Now.
