Set Featured Image In Blogger OR Post Thumbnails

0

Adding featured or thumbnail images in Blogger is easy. Follow these instructions, and your blogs will look well-designed.

Set The Text

In Blogger, it’s best to type or paste text of your blog before you insert images. It makes the images easier to drag into place as well as easier to reposition the text if you need to.

Inserting The Images

There is no selection that says “set featured image option”, so once you’re in the text window of your blog and your text is set, you’ll need to find the insert images icon on the toolbar at the top of the blogger window. Click on it, and it will be given a list of places from where to get your images. These location options are as follows:

  • Uploads
  • From This Blog
  • From Picasa Web Albums
  • From Your Phone
  • From Your Webcam
  • From A URL
  • Uploads Option

If you want to use an image that is not already stored in Blogger, choose “Uploads” and navigate to where your image is stored. The best place to store new images is in a folder on your desktop named for just that purpose.

From This Blog Option

This is where all the images you have already uploaded and/or stored for later use. Just click on “From This Blog” option, and scroll through the images until you find the one you want to use.

From Picasa Web Albums

This option allows you to access images stored elsewhere. First you connect these images to your Blogspot account, and when you click on this option, you are given access to folders of images in these remote folders.

From Your Phone

You can upload images from your cell phone as well. When you first do this, you are given directions for where to download the App that works with your type of phone and with Blogger.

From Your Webcam

When you click on the “From Your Webcam” option, you can upload video images from your phone as well as make audio and video recordings from you desktop or laptop.

From A URL Option

You can also insert an image by locating the URL from where you found it. Choose the “From A URL Option” and insert the URL where the image you want to use is located.

Text Application

Before choosing an image to insert, click your curser next to the area in the text where you want to place it. Once you’ve decided from where you will get the image, choose which one you want to use. You have two choices for inserting the image into the text:

  1. Double click on the image
  2. Click once on the image and then click on the button below that says “insert selected”

After inserting the image, you can use the click-hold-drag option to move it into place. You can also resize the image. Click one time directly on the image and an option bar will pop-up below the image. From there you have the choice of small, medium, or large size options; left, center, or right justify settings; and options for adding captions to feature an image. In addition, you can add properties to the image.

The set featured image in Blogger options are not only easy, they are quick to use.

How To Hide/Make Invisible Alexa Widget In Blogger

0

Alexa is a website analytics and ranking company. If you want to increase the number of people visiting your site then you will want to try to improve your sites Alexa rank. One easy way of doing this is to add the Alexa widget to your blogger site.

The problem with this is that there are only three different widgets available, all of which are fixed and cannot be adjusted. This can make certain designs and layouts look unprofessional. However, if you don’t include the widget then improving you Alexa rank can be much more difficult,

It’s possible to resolve this by making the blogger widget invisible. This guide will walk you through the easy steps required to hide Alexa widget. This will allow your blog to benefit from an improved alexa page rank without any harm to the sites design.

Step 1 – Get your Unique Alexa Code

The first thing that you need to do is get the code for your site. Alexa automatically generates this code for you so you don’t have to do any hard work. To do this, visit the Alexa.com website and register for an account if you don’t already have one. Enter the website address and it will generate the code for the widget.

There will be a choice of different sizes of widget that you can choose from. Choosing different ones will generate different code. The code will automatically include your websites address, so that you don’t need to do any major editing.

Step 2 – Modify the Code

If the code is pasted into the website as it is, then it will display the visible Alexa widget. This could damage your blogger site design and so needs to be modified. The modification to make the widget invisible is very easy.

Open notepad to make editing the code easier. Paste the block of code which was generated in step one into the notepad window. Then above it copy and paste this:

<div style=”display:none;”>

After you have done this, below it copy and paste:

</div>

This puts the widget in an invisible divider so it won’t be seen by you visitors. By doing this you will be able to benefit from an improved Alexa rank score without affecting the design of your actual website.

Step 3 – Adding the Code

When the code has been edited, it then needs to be pasted into your blogger site. This can be done by going to Blog Title, Layout, Add Widget. Then copy and paste the entire block of code from step 2, including the <div> tags at the top and bottom.

Step 4 – Testing

Once you have finished adding the code to the site, you should then test it. Visit your blogger site and hopefully you won’t notice any difference. If you do see the Alexa widget though, you will need to check that you set the div tags correctly. Check for any spelling mistakes or errors in the code.

Once the code is in place it should start improving your sites Alexa rank. It should also allow you access to site statistics, including where visitors are from and how many visitors have viewed your site.

Hopefully this simple tutorial has shown you how to hide Alexa widget in blogger. Similar techniques can also be applied to other forms of website, including WordPress.

BOXBOY! COMING To A Nintendo 3DS Near You!

0

There are countless video games that feature boxes, but now there’s a new kid on the block. BOXBOY! is a cute puzzle-style challenge for the Nintendo 3DS that has echoes of the classic games from yesteryear. The first thing you’ll notice about BOXBOY! is how its graphics remind you of the Game Boy, but it’s as if the interface has been given a contemporary twist.

HOW TO PLAY

The aim of the game is pretty simple: you’ll need to guide ‘Qbby’, who is basically a cube, to the exit. There are different worlds to explore, and you’ll soon find that Qbbby can’t jump very high, so you’ll need to rely on your skill, and a bit of persistence, in order to progress to subsequent levels. Watch out for lasers, pits, and spikes, which can damage the main character, and look out for on-screen tips which provide you with the information you need when avoiding these obstacles.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Although the game is basic, it’s definitely addictive. Soon you’ll be making bridges and staircases out of the boxes, and collecting crowns. BOXBOY! can be enjoyed by all ages, and is more of a ‘brain game’, where you will need to think logically in order to progress to other worlds. You’ll need a good memory – especially when techniques you learn early on in the game will be needed to complete later stages of game play. Just remember a few basics; tapping the L and R buttons will take you back to the previous checkpoint, which can be a major plus if you get stuck.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you remember the classic Nintendo games, and how simple they were compared with today’s offerings, BOXBOY! is definitely for you. There’s almost a nostalgic quality to it, and you’ll certainly spend many hours trying out new configurations and developing new strategies for Qbby. This is a definite must-have for players who enjoy puzzles, challenges, and using their brains!

Wii U – Angry Nerd’s Having An Adventure?

0

We’ve heard of movie franchises being turned into video games, and vice versa, but a game based on an internet comedy series? Really?! Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures (or AVGNA for short) on the Wii U is based on Angry Video Game Nerd, a comedy show that stars James Rolfe – famous for his unusual, but often hilarious, reviews of classic video games. AVGNA has just been released on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and is certainly an exhilarating (if at times perplexing) play.

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures was first released back in 2013 on Steam. The game follows the Nerd as he tries to rescue his friends who have been sucked into his TV. The premise is odd, but surprisingly it works. There’s a whole load of challenges to complete, including fighting off zombies, and coming across several characters that are based on pop culture icons (think Navi from The Legend of Zelda, Freddy Krueger, and many more). It’s this weird combination of familiar characters, comedy, and surrealism that makes Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures such an enjoyable play. There are tutorials along the way which explain your challenges, and you’ll often have to reply on your NES Zapper – which serves as your weapon in the game.

HOW TO PLAY

If you’re not familiar with AVGNA on Steam, expect retro graphics and sound effects. There are several characters you’ll meet on your travels, and you will need to work your way through ten different rounds with power ups, a 2D platform, and several challenges.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Although AVDNA doesn’t really add anything new to gaming, it’s certainly fun. It’s a pastiche of all of those iconic NES games that you used to play, and if you’re a fan of the web series, you’ll definitely enjoy this. There’s plenty of toilet humor, and the game frequently lampoons some of the most famous characters in the movie and gaming genres.
